A Composer Among Us

I received an email from Mike Keegan the other day. He is hornist, director, and composer for the Eastwinds Chamber Ensemble, based out of Milwaukee, WI. You can contact Mike and find out more about him and his compositions at www.eastwindsensemble.com .

Thanks, Mike!

Session 1 "Breathing"

Hi, everybody!

I know that I said in my Intro that the first podcast would come out at the end of August, but after nearly 150 downloads of the Intro, I decided to get it out early. This first podcast is on breathing.

Please email me with questions that you want answers to. And if you would like me to address something specific to your playing, simply attach an mp3 to the email. (You will of course need a decent microphone connected to your computer.)

I look forward to hearing from you,

Michael Wells

Welcome!

Hello, Everybody!

Welcome to The Horn Studio!

My name is Michael Wells, and I will be your host for this blog (and podcast) which has been created for the horn-playing community.

My goal is to provide information and inspiration in a way that is both fun and entertaining. We will cover all aspects of horn-playing technique from breathing to tonguing, from high range to low range. We will explore the different horns on the market, and find out which one is right for you. Whether you are a player, teacher, or student, I hope you will all get something positive from this site.

Who is this site for?

This site is for any player at any age on any level.

Let me take a moment to reassure those of you who are teachers. I'm not trying to take any students away from you. That is the last thing I would want to happen. I want to be a resource for you. I hope I will be reinforcing what you are already telling your students so that they can learn much faster.

Who are you, and why are you here?

I have been a freelance horn player in the metro Atlanta area for over twenty years. And I have been a regular member of several orchestras around the Southeast. I've been teaching privately for even longer. So I've been at this for awhile , and I've learned alot. And I've made a few mistakes along the way. But I have also reached a point in my career where I feel a need to give something back. Maybe I can help you avoid some of those mistakes that I have made.

Are the podcasts free?

Yes. The podcasts are free, but donations are welcome. Expect the podcasts to begin near the end of August. They will be released at least once per month, but more often than that depending on the level of interest.

How does this work?

This is where YOU come in. I need you to send me your questions, concerns, issues, and problems. You can send them by email, snail mail, or MP3 . I will do my absolute best to find an answer for you. And I'm counting on all of the more experienced players out there to help. I'm not going to have the answer to everything, so feel free to add your wisdom at any time.

The most important thing you can do is let me know that you want to have the podcasts continue. Here is my contact info:
